Singing with Mrs Smith

posted 12 Jul 2017, 07:20 by Emily Vale

We were very lucky this week to have a special visit from Arthurs mummy Mrs Smith. Mrs Smith lead a fantastic music session were we warmed up our voices with a special song. We then learnt about beats in music and used symbols to follow a rhythmic pattern. We even learnt a tongue twister song called the cookie cooker which made us very hungry for a treat! Then we showed Mrs Smith some of the songs we like to sing. Thank you for visiting!

This half term we having been learning all about electricity. We started our topic looking at different appliances that use electricity including toys, appliances in our homes and how much we rely on electricity in our day to day lives. We then discussed safety and thought about the dangers of using electricity such as never having water near electricity and not playing with plugs. We then made a working electric circuit ourselves! Our task was to make the light bulb shine. We thought of the circuit as being like a big circle and that the circle must never break. We all managed to make a working circuit (a little help with the tricky crocodile clips).

We have been looking carefully at the new take one picture from the national gallery this week. We will be completing a project around this picture at the end of the term so we were looking carefullythinking about topics and themes we could take from it that we would like to explore further in our learning. We had the task of putting the picture back together without even seeing it! This proved tricky but we managed to complete the puzzle. We were interested in the mermaids in the water and the giant ship also the weaving that the lady was completing. We looked into the background story of the picture from the national gallery's website.

WOW! What fantastic projects we have had come in over the last week. The children loved sharing their learning with each other and we gained so many facts about different landmarks. Did you know that the London Eye has 32 capsules and takes half an hour to go around? Also Buckingham palace has 775 rooms! Thank you for all of your hard work with these projects over the Easter break.
